These upside-down strawberry heart-shaped puff pastries are a simple and elegant dessert. Filled with sweet strawberries and honey, they’re perfect for special occasions.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Drizzle a bit of honey directly onto the parchment where each tart will be placed. Then layer the sliced strawberries on top of the honey, creating a small mound of fruit for each tart.
Roll out your puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into heart shapes slightly larger than your strawberry mounds. You can freehand the hearts or use a cookie cutter if you have one.
Optional step: For an even firmer dough, place the cut-out puff pastry hearts in the fridge for 15-20 minutes before assembling the tarts. This helps the pastry hold its shape better during baking.
Once chilled (if opting for this step), place the heart-shaped pastry over the strawberries, pressing the edges down gently to encase the fruit underneath.
Beat the egg in a small bowl, then brush the top of each heart-shaped pastry with the egg wash for a golden, glossy finish.
Bake the pastries in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and flaky.
Remove from the oven and let the pastries cool for a few minutes. Carefully flip each pastry over so the strawberries and honey are on top.
Right before serving, dust the pastries with powdered sugar for a sweet, decorative finish.
