Homemade Aloe Vera Juice
Ingredients
- 15 ounces fresh aloe vera leaf
- 3 cups filtered water
- ⅓ cup lime juice, freshly squeezed
- 1–2 Tbsp agave syrup or honey
- 2 Tbsp white wine vinegar
Variation with Cucumber
- 1 small cucumber (about ½ cup), peeled and chopped
Instructions
Prepare the Aloe Vera Gel
- Combine the vinegar and water in a large mixing bowl. This will be used to clean the aloe vera gel.
- Rinse the aloe vera leaf thoroughly to remove any dirt or dust.
- Cut off about 1½ inches from the top and bottom of the leaf. Then, slice off the thorny edges starting from the thicker end of the leaf. Gently peel away the top green layer using your hands or a sharp knife.
- Use a large spoon to scrape out the clear, transparent gel from the bottom layer. Be careful to avoid any yellow latex or green rind. You only want the transparent gel.
- Place the gel in the bowl of vinegar water and rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of yellow or green.
Blend And Serve
- Add the cleaned aloe vera gel, lime juice, sweetener, and 1½ cups of filtered water to a blender. Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and frothy.
- Taste and adjust the flavor by adding more lime juice, sweetener, or water as needed.
- For a smoother juice, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher. Skip this step if you prefer a slightly pulpy texture.
- Pour the juice into glasses, garnish with lime slices or mint leaves, and serve immediately. For a chilled drink, add a few ice cubes.
Variation with Cucumber
- For the cucumber variation, simply add the chopped cucumber to the blender along with the aloe vera gel, lime juice, sweetener, and water in Step 2 to infuse the juice with its crisp, refreshing flavor.
